Dr. Durryle Brooks is a distinguished expert in conflict resolution and workshop facilitation with a robust background in education, social justice, and public health. As the Founder and President of Love & Justice Consulting LLC, Dr. Brooks has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing leaders' capacities to engage with diversity and social justice issues effectively. His consulting work includes creating comprehensive anti-bias curriculums and facilitating anti-oppression training, which underscores his commitment to fostering inclusive environments.
Dr. Brooks’ expertise extends to organizational development, as demonstrated by his role as Deputy Director of Racial Justice & Organizational Development at the Service Employees International Union. In this position, he has been pivotal in guiding local union leaders through transformative organizational changes, focusing on innovation and racial justice. He has specifically supported SEIU 1021, 1199NW Florida on team building and anti-racism work. Additionally, he collaborated with the Healthcare Division to build the Healing Trauma Program, aimed at providing support for healing from the effects of systemic oppression. Dr. Brooks also provides team development, retreat facilitation, and training related to anti-racism work.
Dr. Brooks is also a next generation faculty member for the Social Justice Training Institute (SJTI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing professional and personal development of social justice educators and practitioners. SJTI offers a week-long racial justice immersion designed to enhance and refine participants' skills and competencies to create greater inclusion for all members of the community.
His tenure as a Research Associate at Johns Hopkins University further highlights his proficiency in managing complex, multi-site clinical research trials and supervising research teams. Dr. Brooks has also contributed significantly to academia, having taught courses on LGBTQ issues and education at Towson State University. He is the author of "(Re)conceptualizing Love: Moving Towards a Critical Theory of Love in Education for Social Justice," which explores the role of love in social justice education and its implications for pedagogy and praxis. His work on Operationalizing Love has been featured at national conferences like Facing Race 2022, National Conference on Race and Ethnicity (2022, 2023, 2024), and Creating Change Conference (2022).
With certifications in Social Justice Conflict Mediation and extensive training in social justice, Dr. Brooks is well-equipped to address various conflict scenarios within diverse organizational settings. His facilitation skills are particularly notable in his work with Leadership for Educational Equity, where he developed a dynamic curriculum on power, privilege, oppression, and liberation.
